The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organisation was founded in November 1980 and has a presence in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term wellbeing of refugees and displaced persons, while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs. JRS offers opportunities to a wide variety of staff, local and international, while maintaining a realistic and localised scheme of salary/stipend, insurance, etc.
In Thailand, JRS manages five programmes spread throughout urban and rural areas serving refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. JRS Thailand has field offices in Bangkok, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sot (Tak), and Wiang Haeng (Chiang Mai). The main areas of work include education, psycho-social services, livelihoods, emergency assistance, advocacy and protection. Relations: The Burmese Subject Teacher Volunteer directly reports to the Education Coordinator and works closely with the Subject Teachers, Head Teacher, the KnTTCDP Coordinator and JRS trainers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Co-teach with, and mentor or coach the Burmese subject teachers of Standard 9 and 10 students based on the curriculum implemented in the KnED Schools 2-3 days per week; and conduct once a week refresher training sessions with the KnED Trainers in teaching languages
• Together with the subject teachers, construct and submit lesson plans to Head Teacher; identify teaching activities and materials to use to ensure quality and effective teaching-learning process
• Monitor students activities and addresses students’ educational learning needs
• Assist the teachers/counterparts in preparing and submitting class records (students’ evaluation, progress report or Continuous assessment, etc.) to the Head Teacher
• Share information about student developments with the Head Teacher, Coordinators and JRS relevant staffs
• Ensure open communication with students for counseling and tutorials
• Communicate and cooperate with other local schools to get information about the school and student development
• Coordinate with the KnTTCDP Coordinator and JRS trainers in conducting and evaluating the training for local KnED trainers
• Prepare and submit monthly report
Qualifications & Experience:
• University degree, preferably in the education or related field
• Experience in student assessment and evaluation
• Fluent in Burmese (all skills)
• Basic communication skill in English is an advantage
• Adaptability, patient, self-motivated, and service-minded
• Understanding of and empathy with refugee communities
• Strong teamwork skills, able to work successfully in a multi-cultural
