The Nutrition Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Office is seeking an individual consultant to review and edit a Supplement in the peer-reviewed journal Maternal and Child Nutrition (MCN) and write the report for the Mongolia National Nutrition Survey (NNS).
Work Assignment,Work Schedule and Expected deliverables:
In collaboration with and under the guidance of the UNICEF EAPRO Regional Adviser Nutrition, the EAPRO survey/data consultant and the UNICEF Mongolia country office, the consultant will carry out the specific tasks detailed below:
Component
1. Mongolia NNS report
- Development of NNS 5 report draft after interpretation workshop
Activity:
1.1 Using outline developed by NCPH and UNICEF, the NNS 5 report draft will be developed with included tables, graphics, figures, and case studies. A focus will be on presenting structured review of findings, influencing variables to key findings and recommendations for programmatic and policy actions.
Deliverable:
The NNS 5 report will be drafted in stages based on thematic section. Thematic sections will be included and expanded upon after the interpretation workshop:
- Household characteristics
- Child nutrition and health status
- Pregnant women nutrition status
- Nutrition status of men 15-49 years of age
- Nutrition status of mothers 15-49 years of age
- Nutrition status of school age children
Timeframe :June 26th- 30th
Estimated days: 5 days
- Review of NNS 5 report draft stages
Activity:
1.2 Drafting of thematic sections of the final report and 6-7 one-page advocacy handouts. NNSV report and one-page advocacy handouts will be edited by NCPH and UNICEF and returned to the UNICEF EAPRO consultant within a week of their drafting.
Deliverable:
The final report will consist of one chapter for each of the surveys collected:
- Children 0-59m
- School age children
- Women of reproductive age 15-49y
- Men 15-49y
- Pregnant Women
- Household survey
Thematic chapters will be developed based on key analysis findings as determine in the interpretation workshop. It is expected that there will be 8-10 thematic chapters developed from the interpretation workshop. NCPH and the consultant will provide case studies and boxed text for inclusion into the chapters.
6-7 one page advocacy handouts will be developed based on the thematic chapters for a summary of the key findings from the analysis.

Activity:
1.3 Coordination with NCPH for the translation of the report and handout documents after final English version are approved by NCPH and UNICEF.
Deliverable:
NCPH will provide translation and review of translation for each report module after final approval of the English version.
Final review of the Mongolian translation of the final report and one page advocacy handouts will be provided by NB of NCPH.
Completed translation will be sent to the report writer for graphic design as completed.
Timeframe : August 1st-September 15th

Activity:
1.4 Coordination with the graphic designer and final proofreading of the final report and one-page advocacy handouts.
Deliverable:
The report writer will liaise with the graphic designer to finalize the graphic design of the final report and one page advocacy handouts.
Final review will be conducted by NCPH and UNICEF Mongolia.

Component
2. MCN supplement review/editing
- Initial review and editing of draft articles
Activity:
2.1 In collaboration with the EAPRO Regional Adviser Nutrition and the article authors, undertake initial review of all of the draft articles submitted by the authors, and edit content, consistency, flow, language, tables and formatting. Liaise with the authors on questions, gaps, and obtain author confirmation of edits.
Deliverable:Final drafts of articles ready for submission to MCN
Timeframe : July 1st –October 31st 2017
Estimated days: 35 days
- Assist with incorporation of MCN/peer reviewer comments
Activity:
2.2 In collaboration with the EAPRO Regional Adviser Nutrition liaise with the article authors to assist them with incorporating the comments by MCN (if applicable) and the peer reviewers, to prepare final versions
Deliverable:
Final articles with peer reviewer comments addressed.
Timeframe : March 1st 2018 – 30th April 2018

Estimated Duration of Contract:** 80 total working days during the 11.5 month period
Official Travel: Home-based assignment.**
Qualifications or Specialized Knowledge/Experience Required:
- Advanced University degree in Nutrition, PhD an asset
- At least 2 years professional experience in nutrition programming and/or research
- Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form, with proven experience in academic writing (examples of articles will be requested)
- Proven experience in translating data into narrative reports (examples of reports will be requested)
- Strong skills in communication, networking, and negotiation
- Ability to exercise analytical and conceptual thinking
- Ability to work remotely and produce quality work within deadlines **
