***********Job responsibilities/activities:**
Clinical responsibility for all patients attending the MSF- H health facilities with any medical conditions within your scope of management.
Clinical Tasks:
1. Consultations:
- Conduct thorough history taking and targeted physical exam techniques to arrive at diagnoses and treatment plans
- Apply the diagnostic and treatment strategies as found in (1) MSF Treatment Guidelines, (2) MSF Essential Drugs Practical Guidelines, (3) MSF: Holland South Sudan adapted protocols
- Educate patients regarding their diagnoses, appropriate medication use and prevention strategies as relevant
- Refer all critically ill or medically complex patients to the medical OPD expat supervisor.
- Closely follows up patients’ registration, triage and flow within the OPD
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient complaints, diagnoses and treatment
- Maintain a good standard of order and hygiene within the examination rooms with special attention paid to universal precautions
- Refer to ITFC/ATFC/IPD/ANC/PNC for further assessment accordingly.
- Liaises with the supervisors on day-to-day medical care in the designated department
- Encourage and conduct health education of the patients attending OPD in cooperation with other staff members.
- Carrying out regular triage amongst the waiting patients, identifying people who require priority consultations in coordination with the card registers.
- Ensure hygiene and infection control is maintained in the OPD/IPD
2. Supervisory tasks
- Provide supportive supervision of the other less skilled medical staff working with you and ensure that MSF protocols are being followed in every procedure.
- Ensure that all employees are adequately performing their jobs in the OPD, while reporting any problems to medical OPD expat supervisor. (Pharmacy, First dose, Sterilization, Consultation, Card register)
- Be proactive in maintaining and procuring all patient care material for OPD; review OPD rooms, card registrar position, dispensary
- Gives advice on staff training needs in consultation with the medical OPD expat supervisor
- Conducts trainings to paramedics on training days.
- Takes on further responsibilities when the medical OPD expat supervisor is away or in the case of evacuation.
- Ensure that all patients receive the prescribed medication in the correct dose and at the right time.
- Educate your patients on treatment adherence and on return visit were necessary.
- Discuss with the expat MD or nurse all difficult cases that are beyond your management scope for assistance or any necessary supports.
- Participate in the on call duty in rotation as organized by the medical responsible.
3. Reporting
- Taking care that registers and patient follow up forms are correctly filled in
- Filling in morbidity forms on a daily basis with one diagnosis per patient.
- Manage the weekly Morbidity Tally sheet
- Actively participates in tracking consumption activities in their designated department including the OPD pharmacy
- Early reporting of any reportable diseases or potential outbreaks (measles, meningitis, cholera)
- Ensure that the right diagnoses for each patient are recorded on the patient’s card/chart.
- Support in the monitoring, collating, analysis and reporting of medical/drugs consumptions if requested by your line manager.
4. Other responsibilities:
- Take active part in health needs assessment in the target population if required.
- To perform any other tasks requested by your Expat supervisor
- To participate to the health education of the patients.
****Requirements****
- Good written and spoken English
- Work experience in HeP-E and maternity will be an added advantage
- Previous similar experience of working for an INGO in remote context
- Registered Nurse diploma from an institution recognized by the SMoH.
- Flexible attitude and able to take initiative, make good judgment and use common sense when required.
- Understanding and commitment to the aims and values of MSF.
