The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme, Young Child Survival and Development (YCSD) Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office is seeking a qualified intern to assist the WASH programme in developing advocacy materials on Equity focus and WASH, as part of Regional Office efforts to strengthen integrated / cross-sectoral equity programming, as part of improving Knowledge Management.
General background:
Strengthening equity focused programming is an important cross-cutting area in WASH and other UNICEF supported sectoral programme areas; Country Programme designs are based on increasing equity and risk analysis, and generally, UNICEF country programmes include components on ‘upstream’ work as well and sub-national support in selected sub0-national areas. Considering Equity is the corner stone under the current Strategic Plan (2014-2017) and this specific project will focus on assisting the section in preparing country profiles on geographic and cross-sectoral focus of WASH, Health. Nutrition etc., aiming to highlight synergies and innovations and identifying specific barriers to improve equity sensitive WASH programming.
Scope of work:
a) Develop a work plan with time line to accomplish the task in close coordination with YCSD section and Programme, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) section.
b) Review the available data sources such as Country Programme Documents (CPD/CPAP, Situation Analysis and Workplans).
c) Develop a draft lay out of simple country level dash board including map of geographic focus areas; this could be undertaken using examples of existing trackers and using the Monitoring for Results (MoRES) dimensions1.
d) Based on analysis of country/regional documents, develop draft country profiles, highlighting geographic areas of existing inequities, UNICEF country programme focus areas across sectors and set of interventions. Share draft country profiles with PME and (selected) country offices for missing/additional information/validation finalize profiles

Regional overview paper on geographic programming focus and equity in WASH – status and bottlenecksCountry profiles (selected) on geographic cross -sectoral programming focus in WASH.
Estimated Duration:
The internship will be for a period of 3 months.
Duty station is Bangkok, Thailand. (Combination of office-based and Home-based work arrangement.)
Qualifications or Specialized Knowledge/Experience Required:
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school, preferable in Public Health or related field. (Applicants enrolled in an undergraduate school must have completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree). Have good academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
Strong aptitude in learning and researching, and managing information is required.
Comfortable in using new IT software, platforms, communication and knowledge management tools.
High caliber and demonstrated skills in analyzing large sets of data both qualitative and quantitative;
Good command in using written and spoken English;
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Additional consideration will be given for any past work experience.
Ability to perform a variety of administrative tasks.
Able to adapt and work in a multicultural setting.

Conditions of Intern:
a) Expenses: Intern does not receive any financial assistance. Costs and arrangements for travel, visa, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibilities of the Intern.
b) Visa: Intern is responsible for obtaining the necessary entry visa and arranging their travel to Bangkok. UNICEF/EAPRO will assist only in issuing documents required in visa processing.
c) Health/Medical insurance: Intern is required to hold valid health/accident insurance. UNICEF accepts no responsibilities for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship whether on or off UNICEF premises.
d) Employment: There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
