15-981: Consultant-GBV/CMR Trainer of Trainers

****BACKGROUND****

International Medical Corps, a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs, seeks candidates for the position of ****Consultant – GBV/CMR Trainer of Trainers**** in South Sudan.

Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.

International Medical Corps seeks to reduce maternal, neonatal and child mortality and morbidity rates in South Sudan by increasing the number of skilled birth attendants, midwives and nurses. With support from UNDP, UNFPA and the Canadian International Development Agency, International Medical Corps has built and is currently operating three midwifery schools. International Medical Corps has operated the National Health Training Institutes in Kajo Keji since 2004 and Wau since 2012, and the Juba College of Nursing and Midwifery since 2012. These schools currently enroll a combined 158 midwifery students and 48 nursing students over two years, and have graduated 135 midwives and nurses in the last two years, with another 104 graduates expected in 2015.

UNFPA, in consultation with the Ministry of Health, International Medical Corps and other key stakeholders, recently led a review of the curriculum that leads to the midwifery diploma in South Sudan. International Medical Corps provided significant input on developing three modules with content judged to be critical for midwives practicing in South Sudan: the Minimal Initial Services Package (MISP) for reproductive health in emergencies, gender-based violence and the clinical management of rape (GBV/CMR) and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). English language guides were developed by International Medical Corps to assist in the tutors in delivering these components of the curriculum to the students and ensure standard approach to training. Each training guide includes the objectives and content of the course, the duration of each session, instructional methodology (PowerPoint presentations, discussions, group work), a list of the resources the instructor will need (projector, flip charts) and methods for evaluating learning.
