DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for an experienced Programme Advisor for Humanitarian Response for its South Sudan Programme. This position is mainly covering South Sudan and bordering areas the duty station is Juba. The position is a one year position with the possibility of extension.
DCA is working with local partners in South Sudan to assist the poorest of the poor with a focus on protection, combating hunger, working for peace and conflict mitigation and the safe removal of explosive remnants of war (EWR). In our humanitarian work we focus on Disaster Risk Reduction and Self-protection mechanisms. Our development and humanitarian projects are part of long term programme, where gender is a cross cutting priority and community driven activities and capacity building of partners are the key components.
The main responsibilities of the Senior Programme Advisor for Humanitarian Response are:
Contribute to strategic discussions/decisions on DCA SS’s humanitarian interventions;
Support the Country Director in leadership and management of the humanitarian activities in South Sudan
Increase the activity level of DCA SS in mobilizing resources from international donors;
Participate in the elaboration of new proposals as needed in coordination with the DCA SS Office in Juba and DCA HRU in Copenhagen as well as relevant stakeholders;
Maintain good donor relations, which include proper information flow with current donors (ex. donor embassies in country or the region) and with potential new donors;
Develop and maintain high level of fundraising capacity of the DCA SS Office;
Support DCA SS Program Coordinators, implement, monitor and report on DCA’s humanitarian response activities in South Sudan, with a special focus on disaster risk reduction, self-protection mechanisms and cash distribution;
Capacity develop, support and monitor DCA staff to improve their ability to support partners supply timely, adequate and effective humanitarian assistance, disaster risk reduction and livelihood activities based on credible assessments;
Ensure cooperation and exchange of information within the DCA programmes;
Gather, asses and disseminate information on the humanitarian situation in South Sudan to colleagues and partners, with a special focus on the areas where DCA operate.
The senior PC for Humanitarian Response will work closely with the other PCs, securing able funding for humanitarian activities.
We are looking for a colleague with the following qualifications:
Relevant academic degree, minimum at Master’s level;
At least five years’ of experience in humanitarian response, preferably incl. disaster risk reduction, livelihoods and/or food security;
Experience from working in INGO with partners, fundraising, monitoring, capacity development, etc.;
Experience in working with Cash Transfer Programming
Knowledge of the international standards, such as SPHERE, HAP, etc.;
A pro-active and innovative team player;
Good coordination, facilitation and coaching skills;
Excellence in English, oral and written.
The senior Programme Coordinator will refer to the DCA Regional Representative in Juba.

DCA South Sudan has a turnover of about 10 Mill USD, incl. a humanitarian Mine Action team. The mine action team is self implementing, while the rest of the DCA activities are implemented through partners. 40 of the about 60 staff members work with mine action.
