The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.
The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

NRC is seeking to hire Project Coordinator Education to support the ongoing Emergency activities in Akobo County responding to the needs of IDPs and host community due to the recent conflict. Through the Emergency Education & Youth interventions, NRC is providing appropriate emergency education material and activities to the children and youth affected by conflict.
Responsible for the implementation of strategic plans and the management of programme activities or a specialist function including staff, budget and assets. Specifically the project Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring education opportunities are available for children and youth affected by emergencies. Oversight in implementation of appropriate education in emergency responses and coordination with education authorities and other agencies active in the education cluster/sector.

Job description

  • Lead the Education team in ensuring that all objectives are achieved in a timely manner and according to emergency response plan.
  • Overall supervision of the Education team, offering training, and support to individual members
  • Assist in administration, logistic (including inventory, purchases and requisitions, quotations, as well coordination, execution and monitoring and evaluation of the education project.
  • Draft weekly work plan and activity plan(s) in collaboration with education team members
  • Liaise and maintain excellent working relationships with the Education Cluster members or other Education partners, representing NRC at meetings and Education forums, particularly in the Education Cluster
  • Determines educational supply needs and works with supply and logistics officers to procure and deploy supplies to appropriate destination.
  • Works to establish temporary learning spaces and rehabilitate learning spaces, ensuring child and youth friendly environments
  • Works to identify, mobilise, and train teachers or vocational trainers
  • Works to establish or re-estalish quality primary and youth education opportunities
  • Develops a monitoring and evaluation system to track educational activities
  • Participates in education sector/cluster planning, implementation, and reporting
  • Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly narrative reports on activities
  • Plan, monitor, and evaluate the emergency education activities
  • Coordinate field activities for targeted beneficiaries, including the preparation of information and presentation materials and supervising logistical arrangements
  • Lead recruitment process of new team members, including interviewing candidates
  • Conduct internal weekly and monthly meetings and collect accurate and updated information
  • Identify financial and logistical needs of training team for the implementation of activities
  • Perform any other administrative duties that might be required, including accounting for project expenses incurred and ensuring the Finance and Admin Officer’s work is accurate
  • Ensure that the Education project materials and NRC property are kept in good condition and organized
  • Motivate the team encouraging team spirit and a positive working environment
  • Contribute to NRC’s emergency strategy, action plan, advocacy agenda, and priorities
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals related to the country strategy plan
  • Other relevant tasks as assigned by Project Manager, Area

Qualifications

  • Higher education and substantial management experience required
  • Understanding of quality basic education, with a focus on education in emergencies, with communication and knowledge of latest development and familiarity with current issues, trends and priorities in emergency education in south Sudan.
  • Experience in coordinating amongst other agencies, donors and with governments or experience working within a multi-agency and donor environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with youth education and vocational training
  • Familiarity with emergency education supplies, materials and curricula.
  • Experience or knowledge of educational assessment and monitoring in emergency situations
