South Sudan: Long Term Arrangement for Videographer (Consultancy)

Purpose of the Assignment

The scope of work will include filming, editing, script-writing of material gathered that captures the reality of South Sudanese children and women as well as the development and humanitarian work supported by UNICEF and partners. It is expected that the contractor will also pitch these stories to local, regional and international media using their own contacts to broaden the reach of these products. Tasks will include the following video services:-

  • Broadcast quality B-roll footage with shot list of the raw footage/ shot list and translation of interviews from South Sudanese languages to English.
  • Editing, including scripting and voice over, raw footage into news reports, feature stories and /or documentaries.
  • Filming of UNICEF supplies and interviews with UNICEF staff as requested by UNICEF.

    This assignment fulfils the South Sudan Annual Work Plan (AWP) 2017-2018, output 1: Content production; producing videos; exhibits; visibility materials; text stories, reports and press releases; photographs. 3: Supporting UNICEF S. Sudan programming: Working with nutrition, education, health and child protection sections to promote their work and advocacy goals through events; speech writing; multi-media content creation; issuing press releases; media interviews; social media. 4: Donor support/visibility: Meeting visibility requirements though press releases, human interest stories, social media, multi-media content.

    • Submit draft films for review and approval

    Phase 2 – Submission of final material

    · Submit final approved documentary, B-ROLL and SPLIT versions.

    • Video outtakes for B-roll use in DVD format.

    Work relationships:

    The Consultant will be supervised by the Chief of Communication based in Juba, South Sudan. The consultant shall have regular interactions with the Chief of Communication and other communication staff at the various stages of this consultancy to assess the situation/assignment; agree on the process and clarify the deliverables; and track the progress.

    2. For cut piece a SPLIT TRACK AUDIO (natural sound on one track, voice and music, if any, on the other track) should be sent.

    3. Compression: H.264 video at 12000kbps.

    4. AAC Audio at 256kbps.

    Qualifications of Successful Candidate, Education, Years of relevant experience

    Desired competencies, technical background and experience

  • Formal training or the equivalent experience in videography with a minimum of 5 years of work experience.
  • Proven ability in videographer and experience in humanitarian response.
  • Ability to assimilate and communicate complex visual messages in an engaging and child-friendly manner.
  • Awareness and/or experience with UNICEF’s humanitarian principles.
  • Awareness and/or experience with UNICEF’s activities in South Sudan.
  • Experience working in a conflict/ post-conflict environment desirable.
  • Fluency in English and another UN language
